Gharset Kheir

One Time Seeds, Lifetime Harvests

The Challenge

Lebanon faces a critical loss of native heirloom seeds, with over 90% of its seeds now imported, threatening food security, farmer independence, and agricultural biodiversity. These imported seeds are often expensive, untested locally, and reduce crop variety and resilience. There’s also no national seed bank to protect, test, and multiply local varieties. At the household level, families struggle with food self-sufficiency. Farmers face rising production costs and limited access to sustainable, competitive alternatives. Without intervention, traditional seed knowledge and local crops risk disappearing completely.

Our Solution

Gharset Kheir provides 100% Lebanese heirloom seeds—tested, organic, and climate-resilient—as a sustainable alternative to imported hybrids. We currently offer 45+ vegetable varieties, native herbs, and trees. Our agricultural baskets are designed to support household food self-sufficiency across three seasons. We also run seed-saving programs and workshops to teach communities and students how to grow, harvest, and preserve seeds. By increasing seed availability, offering education, and empowering small farmers, we are rebuilding local food systems and working toward national seed security.

Our Vision

To make Lebanese heirloom seeds accessible locally and globally, ensuring seed sovereignty, food security, and environmental sustainability. We aim to build a national seed bank, empower farmers and households, and position Lebanon as a global hub for native, organic seed varieties.
